FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
As engineers, we focus on designing the docks, roof coverings and seawalls to withstand forces that the structure will experience throughout its lifetime, such as tidal and wave loads as well as wind loads for hurricane forces and storm surges. We create engineered drawings sometimes referred to as blueprints that are the instructions on how a contractor is to install a particular component. In these drawings, we provide specifications for the materials to be used, framing sizing and layout, and corresponding construction details illustrating how to build the structure. We ultimately provide drawings and corresponding calculations to be used to obtain a permit and perform construction.
An environmental permit is required when performing construction activities in waterways and wetlands. During this process we use our engineered drawings as well as our understanding of the specific environmental regulations to understand what is allowed to be constructed on an project and also use our understanding to assist the property owner in getting what they want in a particular project. We then navigative the complext permit process with the state (FDEP) or federal (USACE) entities to ensure compliance with these regulations.
Yes, our licensure requires degrees in engineering from ABET accredited universities as well as passing multiple rigorous national examinations. There is also an experience requirement on top of education which must be met, and only then is one eligible for Professional Engineering Licensure. We also carry professional liability insurance on all our projects.
